Uptimecast: my own service for IRL streamers, from idea to launching sales
My own product for people who stream from a phone outdoors. When the mobile signal drops, Uptimecast puts a BRB screen with music on air in about a second, and the Twitch uptime keeps counting. I took the product all the way: the idea and the competitor comparison, the design and the mascot, a landing page in two languages, the server side, connecting through Twitch and sales through Telegram.
- ≈1 s
- to the BRB screen after a drop
- 3 min
- to connect with a QR code
- 0
- video re-encodes
The task
Build a service that keeps an IRL stream live on Twitch when the mobile signal drops, and take it as far as launching sales: a clear landing page, setup in minutes, payment without a card form on the site.
What I did
- Positioning: compared going live straight to Twitch, cloud OBS and a relay with OBS at home; the table is on the site
- A landing page with a live demo: the “Disconnect” button shows what viewers will see, a BRB screen instead of offline, and the uptime never resets
- Setup without copying the stream key: a “Connect Twitch” button, and a QR code configures Moblin and Larix by itself
- Stream control through chat commands (!brb, !live, !stop), Telegram and buttons on the site
- No re-encoding: the feed goes to Twitch in its original quality, which keeps the servers inexpensive
- The site in Russian and English; the Upti mascot and the pixel style are my own
- Sales through Telegram: a test drive around the streamer’s schedule, direct payment, the site never asks for card details
Proof
- The site is live: the “Open the site” button in the header
- The page plays a recording of the live demo on the site: the signal drops and a BRB screen replaces offline
- I tested the technology first in a pilot for a streamer; the link is below
What else you can hand over to me
- A landing page for a service or course, with a booking form
- A catalogue site: works or products by section, each with a page and an order form
- Finish or rebuild a site started by someone else
- Connect the forms of a WordPress, Tilda or Bitrix site to a CRM and Telegram
- HTML email templates for CRM mailings
- Speed up a site, fix the mobile version, run an SEO audit
